Continuity breaks faster than we expect
120 years ago today, San Francisco slowed down.
At 05:12, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake struck.
The strongest shaking lasted less than a minute. Roughly 45 to 60 seconds.
That’s all it took.
In that minute, routines disappeared. Assumptions failed. Lives didn’t just end. They changed, permanently.
We like to believe disruption arrives with warning. That we’ll have time to prepare, to adjust, to see it coming.
History keeps saying otherwise.
The pattern is the same.
Not long. Just decisive.
A minute.
A second.
Enough.
We are not owed continuity.
We are given this moment.
